Board Approves Purchase of New Bus for Recreation Department

0Comments

At their September 6, 2022 meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved $108,750.00 to purchase a new bus for the Recreation and Tourism Department. The bus was originally scheduled to be purchased as part of the 2024 fiscal year; however, with the rising cost of vehicles and supply chain delays, ordering the bus during the 2023 fiscal year will save money and expedite the delivery time. The new bus will be purchased in the next few months and should be delivered within 18 months.

The department currently uses a 2006 bus for recreation trips but has had to postpone or cancel all trips due to the extensive repairs required to ensure the safety of citizens and staff. The Board of Supervisors approved $11,722.00 for maintenance of the 2006 bus, so trips may resume while the new bus is on order. Repairs on the 2006 bus are expected to be completed by November 1, 2022.
