At their November 1, 2022 meeting, the Amherst County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution giving the Director of Recreation, Tourism, and Cultural Development the authority to create a committee to aid in planning for the Virginia American 250 Commission (VA250 Commission).

The VA250 Commission is coordinating efforts with local government agencies to form local committees through 2026 to promote the history and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The goal is to promote the history of our nation’s founding through events in Amherst County with different partnerships. The local VA250 committees will assist with planning and coordinating programs occurring within the Amherst community regularly with the VA250 Commission and be applying for grants to help fund events and planned activities.
