Houston Bowles ’94 has been named the 2023 tournament chairman for The Players Championship. The golf championship, held each March at The Players Club at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, has been described as the “PGA Tour’s flagship event.”

The 2023 event will be held from March 7-12.

In this volunteer role, Bowles will oversee the championship’s 2,000-plus volunteer staff, which includes 47 committees integral to the event’s success. Bowles, a federal account manager in the health insurance industry, is in his 24th year as a volunteer with The Players.

“I am so honored to work alongside the amazing volunteer team at The Players and assume the position of 2023 chairman,” Bowles said in a press release. “The Players volunteers have become my extended family over the last 20-plus years, and their passion and dedication continually motivate me to always do my best.

“I hope to live up to the high standards set by Matt Welch and all past chairpersons and am looking forward to a 2023 championship that is successful on the course and throughout the greater Northeast Florida community.”

Bowles, who lives in Atlantic Beach, Florida, with his wife and daughters, earned a bachelor’s degree in history at Lynchburg. He also played on the lacrosse team. In addition to The Players, Bowles volunteers for numerous Northeast Florida nonprofits, including the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, and others.
