WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability has passed Rep. Good's All Economic Regulations are Transparent (ALERT) Act, a legislation aimed at bringing transparency to the regulatory process under the Biden Administration. The bill received a vote of 21 to 19, signaling bipartisan support for the need to rein in the federal government's regulatory power.

Congressman Good, the sponsor of the bill, expressed the importance of reclaiming constitutional responsibilities and preventing unelected bureaucrats from having broad legislative powers. He stated, "My legislation would shine a light on the federal agencies spread throughout Washington which continue to pile new regulations on hardworking Americans."

The ALERT Act seeks to restore transparency and accountability safeguards that have been eroded in the current regulatory system. One of its key provisions is requiring executive agencies to provide monthly updates on any rules they are developing. This will ensure that there is a clear and accessible understanding of regulatory actions being taken by the government.

Ryan Young, Senior Fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, emphasized the importance of oversight in reining in an out-of-control regulatory system. He commented, "The ALERT Act would restore transparency and accountability safeguards that the Biden administration has eroded."

In addition to the monthly updates, the ALERT Act also mandates the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) to issue an annual report detailing the cumulative costs of all rules proposed or finalized during the previous 12 months. This provision aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the economic impact of regulations on businesses and individuals.

The ALERT Act has garnered support from several cosponsors, including Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), and Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL). It has also received support from organizations such as the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Heritage Action.

With the passage of the ALERT Act in the Oversight Committee, Congressman Good expressed hope that House leadership will quickly bring the bill to the floor for a vote. This legislation promises to provide much-needed transparency in the regulatory process, allowing Americans to have a clearer understanding of the impact of government regulations on their lives and livelihoods.
