WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a significant move to protect small businesses from excessive government regulations, the House Education and Workforce Committee has passed Chairman Good's Small Businesses Before Bureaucrats Act. The legislation, which received a vote of 23 to 20, aims to update the jurisdictional standards of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to better reflect the current state of the economy.

"Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and the backbone of our communities," emphasized Chairman Good. He expressed concern that the NLRB, under the influence of General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo, has often undermined the very employees it was created to protect. This bill sends a strong message of solidarity with business owners who have already been burdened by authoritarian COVID restrictions and aims to shield them from further unwanted government intervention.

The Small Businesses Before Bureaucrats Act seeks to bring the NLRB's jurisdictional standards up to date. Currently, the NLRB has authority over retail businesses with annual revenues exceeding $500,000 and non-retail businesses with annual revenues exceeding $50,000, as set in 1958. By increasing these thresholds to $5,000,000 for retail businesses and $500,000 for non-retail businesses, the number of businesses subject to NLRB regulations would significantly decrease.

If implemented, this bill would exempt more than 50% of retail and non-retail businesses from NLRB jurisdiction, providing relief to countless small business owners across the country.

Chairman Good, who also serves as Chairman of the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee, has been dedicated to championing the interests of small businesses. With the passage of this bill in the Committee, it now becomes Rep. Good's fourth bill of the 118th Congress eligible for consideration on the House floor.

This legislation is seen as a crucial step in ensuring that small businesses can thrive without unnecessary regulatory burdens. As the backbone of the economy, these businesses play a critical role in job creation and community development. By protecting them from overreach by the NLRB, Chairman Good and his colleagues in Congress are working to foster an environment that supports small business growth and economic prosperity.
